P'Niche makes no secret that she can live (and live quite well) simply on apéro. It's truly just the most delightful French tradition, way to entertain, and gather friends and family to relax.
I'm always on the hunt for great nibbles and places to enjoy on my trips to Paris (think Bisous - that heavenly floral infused bespoke cocktail bar). On my last voyage, I happily stumbled into Redd Montorgueil.
Nestled so close to both Rue Montorgueil and rue du Nil, on the nearby rue Saint-Sauveur, Redd has quickly become my favorite haunt when I am lucky enough to be staying in the 2nd arrondissement.
This charming bar à vins has a distinctly quiet and unassuming look to it, but don't be fooled by this casual look - they take their wines and the food pairings very seriously...
The dynamic duo who keep this joint running are Markéta, the former sommelière of the 3 Michelin starred Arpège. By her side is Rob, a transplanted Kiwi (we see you All Blacks rugby fans!)
The team works in tandem, pairing closely with family owned wine makers to select only the best of organic wines.
What a delicious way to stimulate the local economy!
Being mindful of the world renowned French terroir and nature, all food is sourced with an eye on quality and sustainability.
By working with specifically curated suppliers, they can guarantee top notch foods, again, all organic and fresh beyond compare.
The good news gets even better...
Redd offers offer so many options (over 90 wines to choose from) that you can easily turn your light apéro nibble into a proper apéro dinatoire (remember that's like apéro on steroids, with enough to eat that you won't need dinner later).
At time of publishing (in late 2024), the "medium plate" of 5 food items was €15.
The "large plate" of 10 items was €30, working out to a reasonable €3 per selection.
And trust me, they are heavy handed on the plates. Even sharing among friends, we were more than satiated. And, the tartines à l'espagnole were just scrumptious!
Ready to apéro chez Redd Montorgueil? Hooray!
